Being a river city Newcastle has many bridges in total 9 active crossings for road, rail and foot traffic are within the city boundries with an extra rail bridge that is not in use in scotswood.

The oldest one opened 1849 the youngest opened in 2001, recent refurbishments have included repair work to roadways and lighting upgrades that light up the night in the quayside area
